What type of church is Coaling?
Coaling Baptist is a Southern Baptist Church that has been ministering in the Coaling community for over 130 years. We are incredibly proud of our legacy but are thrilled with the opportunities for our future. While we do align ourselves with Southern Baptist doctrine, what we really consider ourselves to be is a relational body of believers. To call us that is the highest compliment you could pay!
When should I visit?
Anytime is a great time to visit!! And the sooner the better as far as we’re concerned… we’re here waiting on you! We offer two times for you to experience worship with us on Sunday mornings: 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Each offers a different way for you to worship with us so feel free to come to either. If you are looking for a pick-me-up in the middle of the week, then consider our Renew worship time on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM.
Where are you located?
We’re located just east of Tuscaloosa, Alabama in Coaling off of highway 11. We’re easy to find and have great Interstate access. Check out our Location page for more details.
What should I wear?
Really, anything you like. Suits and ties are rare; khakis and jeans are abundant. We suggest something comfortable…because that’s what we’ll be wearing.
Do you have any tips for first-timers?
Sure! If you’re worried about standing out as a visitor…don’t be! We’re a good sized church and used to seeing new faces about every week. Also, as a visitor, we promise not to make you stand up, remain seated, or anything else during a worship time that would be signify you as being different from our members or regular attenders.
Once inside you’ll find lots of smiling faces. Don’t be afraid to smile back. If you get turned around, ask one of the smiling faces for help! Come a few minutes early and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere.
What is the worship like?
We use many different techniques to communicate the message God has given us. Because of this, we’re sure that you’ll find yourself at home in one of our two worship times on Sunday morning. A brief break-down of our worship times goes like this…
Traditions (8:30 AM)
This is a worship service featuring the traditional music of our faith with a focus on Biblical preaching. During this service, you’ll see and experience a lot of our Sanctuary choir, piano, and organ.
The Crossing (11:00 AM)
This is a worship experience fueled by contemporary praise and worship with a focus on Biblical preaching. During this service, you’ll see and experience a lot of our band (with guitar, bass, drums).
You’ll find the same message preached at both services so the service you choose to visit is based solely on whatever setting you think you’ll be the most comfortable in. Of course, if you decide to come early and stay for BOTH services to experience worship in two different ways, we’ll be just fine with that.
Do you have programs for children?
Of course we do. Our children’s program (called JAM Time) is offered during the message portion of both Sunday services. Middle and high schoolers are encouraged to attend the main services and also join other students for the “Ablaze” student worship on the second floor of the CBC multi-purpose facility every Wednesday at 6:00 PM.
How long are the services?
We know that you have a lot going on in life and sitting through a long, boring, drawn-out worship experience is the last thing you want to do with your Sunday. So, first and foremost, we strive to not be boring. If it’s less than a perfect fit then we’ll delete it from worship before you ever see it. But to answer your question: about an hour, and occasionally if we have a lot of really good elements, then an hour and 15 minutes.
Do you have Small Groups?
We sure do. They are one of the cornerstones of our worshiping community at Coaling. We view this as a time to connect with others through the study of God’s Word in a smaller setting. Interestingly enough, you’ll find a lot more in our groups than just study and fellowship. Our small group time, called Connections, meets on Sunday morning at 9:45 AM.
Where do I go when I arrive?
If you are joining us for the 8:30 AM or the 11:00 AM worship times, we gather in the main Sanctuary so feel free to come on in…even if you’re a couple of minutes late!
If you choose to attend one of our small groups, you can arrive around 9:30 AM and come to our fellowship area in our main building (behind the Sanctuary). After enjoying some coffee or other refreshment of your choosing, we’ll be able to direct you and any visiting with you to the appropriate small group(s).
Tell me about your Pastor…
Todd is one of the finest communicators we’ve ever seen. He’s understandable, relevant, and (our favorite characteristic) very passionate about the topics on which he speaks! In Todd you’ll find a pastor who comprehends your struggles, cares about your questions, and is committed to doing whatever it takes to help you. Growing up in smaller town setting instilled Todd with a great sense of how important it is to build strong relationships and it is this great insight that he brings into the pulpit. He holds a seminary degree and has been pastoring for several years. You won’t find a pastor anywhere that is more dedicated to biblical truth, compassion, and helping others.
