Special Defend The Orphans Event—-Opportunity to Serve

DHR Adoption Celebration
Sat. August 3rd
11-1 at Bower Park
DTO of CBC will join DHR and other churches in hosting a celebration of the 100 Adoptions completed in the last 5 years at a carnival event with games, jumping castles, free food and school supply give away for DHR adoptive families. Also adoption and foster care information will be available to those interested in learning more. DTO will help by providing brownies and cookies for 100 people. We will also be responsible for a game station. You can get involved through buying or cooking brownies and cookies to be placed in individual serving snack size zip lock bags and bring to the church the morning of or before Aug.3rd. We also need volunteers to help man the game station, help serve food and monitor other games. Please contact Lauree Spurlin at 205-792-3515

Our Mission statement is to extend God’s heart for the orphan to domestic and international orphans through God’s people being His hands, feet and voice sharing His love with them to the Glory of God. We are inspired by Is 1:17 that says, Learn to do good; Seek Justice, Reprove the ruthless; Defend the Orphans, Plead for the Widow. Jeremiah 29:11 says, I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Many of these children without families have given up hope for a good future but that is not what God has planned for them. We feel that if we can show them that they are loved and someone cares about their lives that they in turn will have hope and perhaps begin to open their hearts to love and trust again and most importantly to love and trust Christ. Through Christ they can overcome their past and have a bright future.

Some specific ways you could get involved would be to volunteer at or participate in the Walk this Way Fundraiser each year to help raise funds to meet needs of foster children. Also in the summer we have Project 24 going on where we collect school supplies for foster children. At Christmastime you can adopt a Christmas wish list of an Alabama Baptist Children’s home child to help them have a brighter Christmas.
